PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATION
FUSE, CARTRIDGE, INSTRUMENT TYPE,
GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR
This specification is approved for use by all Departments
and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers the general requirements and test procedures for instrument type
fuses designed for the protection of electrical, electronic, and communication equipment on direct current
(dc) and alternating current (ac) (up to 400 hertz (Hz)) circuits.
1.2 Classification.
1.2.1 Part or Identifying number (PIN). The PIN designation is in the following form and as specified

1.2.1.1 Style. The style is identified by the letters "FM" followed by a two-digit number denoting a fuse
of a given construction and dimensions.
1.2.1.2 Characteristic. The characteristic is identified by a one-letter symbol which indicates the
relative overload interrupt time (see 6.5) in accordance with table I.
